The following is a short poem which primarily takes inspiration from the City of Coventry, which despite the damage of the blitz has managed to rebuild itself in spectacular fashion. An Audio version of the poem is below.
A city burned,
A city scorched,
Fragments of what once was,
Strewn across the smouldering rubble.
A dark end to a story,
Blown asunder,
Lost to the blaze,
Little left save ashes and ruin.
Yet…
The story did not end there,
That was not the final page,
And thus another chapter began.
The elephant became a phoenix,
Rising up through the ashes,
Against all odds,
Rebuilding and regrowing.
A city of resilience,
A city reborn,
Evidence in brick and mortar,
That you can always rise again.
